Hi
Recently I was searching the net for possible places to go where one could spend time relaxing and recuperating in preparation for the next hurdle in their cancer treatment. I was unsuccessful in finding anything but what I did notice was how little support their is for those of us who have/had a cancer which isn't a high profile one, which is why I have now created this little section of our forum.
I myself have had re-occurring bladder cancer for two years, but the hardest things I've had to cope with are the aspects I least expected to be a problem. For example:
Peoples reaction to your diagnosis, I've had people cross the road rather then have to talk to me. One of my children even moaned at me for causing a disruption to their life, and the phone stopped ringing from certain people.
The feelings of confusion when you are (gratefully) given an all clear histology. You've spent so long being a cancer patient you forget how to be a normal person again and start living a normal life.
Then there are the practical things also, like renewing life insurance and managing the cost involved when you have cancer.
All these things and so much more, are little hurdles for which sometimes the answers are hard to find. Hopefully, here, we can discuss both the little and the big issues and offer each other some tips, tricks and advice.
All the Best
Neil
